19 years later their are still no gun changes. This week proved that ... No way NRA can justify this their rhetoric... The NRA doesn't care about the 2nd amendment, all they care about is making money at the expense of American lives. They spin fear and outdated laws as a reason not to change the gun laws. THIS SHIT HAS GOT TO STOP!!!

Actually, a lot of people care about the 2nd Amendment. It's a quite important founding principle of this nation. Those who come from tyrannical nations ruled by despots know the lack of freedom all too well when there are no means to fight back. The Founding Fathers were actually geniuses in this regard. The fact that sick individuals and criminals are armed to the teeth makes it even more necessary for law-abiding citizens to be able to protect themselves from this threat. But that is not what right to bear arms is all about. As it stands, the federal government becomes more powerful and tyrannical by the day. Eventually, it will come to revolution if we don't impose some self-control on our own elected officials.
ReplyDeleteThe Founding Fathers, having just broken away from Great Britain, understood the new federal government they were ratifying might one day become just as tyrannical. If it had the authority to control citizen access to firearms, then it could disarm them, just as the British attempted to do. This would make any attempts to restore liberties futile.
The Second Amendment was specifically included in the Bill of Rights to prevent this.
Two centuries later, we are in an ideological struggle with gun control advocates attempting to alter the meaning of the Second Amendment in order to allow for federal restrictions on our right to bear arms. Not surprisingly, they completely ignore what the ratifiers of the Constitution and the Second Amendment had to say, because all pertinent historical documents contradict them.
For example, when the Founders wrote of a “well regulated” militia, they meant militias needed to be well regulated through training and drilling in order to be effective in battle. This could only happen if citizens had unrestricted access to firearms.
James Madison, the father of the Constitution, said in 1789 that “A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country.”
An example of a well regulated militia under Madison’s definition were the Minutemen at Concord and Lexington, who had drilled on fields in preparation for war.
As to the meaning of the word “militia,” it has nothing to do with the National Guard. There is already a clause in the Constitution that specifically authorizes arming them.
So what is a militia as defined by the Founders? Mason said they were “the whole people, except for a few public officials.”
Dude that was 1776, this is 2015. The Current gun laws don't work, make guns harder to get, steeper penalties, tracking of guns and bullets, mental and criminal background checks. The current laws are NOT WORKING. How many more people have to die? Fuck teh NRA, all the care about is $$$$$$$$$

C'mon Rick, you are smarter than this. So it's 2015 not 1776. Maybe those guys were on to something people today are too dumb to recognize. Let's use the most recent facts available from 2011, to bring the issue to present day:
ReplyDeleteOf 32,352 gun deaths, 21,175 were suicide. 2,500 accidental or unintentional injuries (hunting accidents, children playing with unsecured guns, etc).
So, that leaves 8,583 deaths nationwide are murders of various sorts, most of which are drug/gang related. Compare that to 1,700 stabbing murders, 500 with blunt objects and 700 beaten to death with bare hands. In other words, the bad guys ALWAYS find a way to kill. These tragedies are the worst kind of tragedy, but it just goes to show that bad people will do bad things regardless of laws. 40% of guns purchased by convicts are on black market and 37% through various gray market illegal methods, so 77% of guns used in murders are obtained illegally to begin with.
It just shows that you can not legislate every single thing. And with the government getting more tyrannical all the time and violent crime at such a crazy level with all these drugged out fuckers running around everywhere, I am very happy to keep my guns. That fucker who comes through my door in the middle of the night is gonna pay with his life.
You quote statistics like this is baseball... This is Life- The current gun laws are not working, the reason they are not made tighter and more restrictive is money, nothing about the 2nd Amendment.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, you are missing the point. Out of 32,000 deaths, almost 24,000 are self inflicted. Meaning that in the case of suicide it's not a "gun" death per se but the person would have found a way. Of the 8,500 classified as murder, a VERY high percentage of those are criminals who circumvent the laws and luckily, for the most part, only kill each other. Which is a good thing because we need more criminals being killed.
ReplyDeleteThat means about 2000-3000 innocent people, out of 320 million, die nationwide as the result of gun violence. Certainly that is terrible and tragic in many circumstances, but should these incidences occurring to less than .000001% of the population be enough reason to change the Constitution of the United States? There are plenty of legitimate reasons to own a gun aside from constitutional right of protecting oneself from a tyrannical government.
If anything, the gun laws ARE working, but the CRIMINAL laws that aren't working. Not enough dangerous people locked up long enough or executed. Too many criminal rights, not enough penalties, too much probation. Not enough illegal alien killers (illegals were responsible for 3000 murders in Texas alone over a 5 year period) executed or deported. Too many people who are a known danger being given multiple chances to roam free when criminal recidivism is near 100% for felons. Too many people on drugs or living off of criminal activity, and too much societal tolerance of criminality.
See, it isn't the LAWS that are the problem. They are plenty restrictive, as any gun owner will tell you. People are fucked up, and with a permissive, drug-fueled, multicultural society comes a lot of violence, unfortunately. Just look at where we live. You think if I didn't have a gun the gangs wouldn't be able to get them?
